About Course

Course content: Integrated HIV care, management and treatment counseling
Modality of training: Classroom, practical and community interface (new approach/ practical)
Duration: 2 weeks classroom and 1 week practicum

Objective of the training

To Provide Training On General HIV Care And Treatment of PLHIVs
Support PLHIVs to adopt and maintain prevention strategies that reduce the transmission of HIV/STI in their communities.
To provide knowledge on the National HIV testing algorithm
To provide knowledge on the different HIV prevention interventions

Understand the fundamentals of HIV care, treatment, and prevention
Apply the national HIV testing algorithm in clinical and community settings
Deliver effective HIV counselling and support to individuals and groups
Promote positive prevention strategies among PLHIV
Conduct HIV/STI risk reduction education
Implement community-level interventions for HIV support
Address psychosocial needs of PLHIV through client-centered care
Identify and link clients to appropriate HIV prevention and treatment services

At the end of this session participants will be able to: Understand the global and national trends of the HIV pandemic. Discuss basic facts about HIV and AIDS. Describe the natural history about HIV/AIDS Discuss HIV transmission

Module 2: Laboratory and Clinical Diagnosis of HIV
By the end of this session participants will be able to: Correctly test for HIV in adults and in children Describe the effect of HIV on the immune system Make a clinical diagnosis of HIV and AIDS Make a presumptive diagnosis of HIV in children

Module 3: HIV Prevention
At the end of this session participants will be able to explain; HIV combination prevention strategies; a) Structural, b) Behavioral and c) Biomedical HIV prevention Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV Understanding PrEP and PEP as biomedical HIV interventions

Module 4: Antiretroviral Therapy
By the end of this session, participants will be able to: Discuss the goal of ART Understand how ARVs work Understand basic ART management

Module 5: HIV Services Delivery Modules
By the end of the presentation the participants should be able to: Explain HTS Testing modalities Know the facility testing modalities Know the community testing modalities Understand HTS Screening tool Understand HTS Circular 2020

Module 6: Gender Based Violence
By the end of this session the participants will be able to: Define Gender Based Violence List the different forms of GBV Manage of GBV survivors Discuss the GBV referral pathway

Module 7: HIV Counselling
At the end of this session participants will be able to; Define counseling. Know the Counseling Ethics Explain the Principles of counseling Know the counseling process Know Pre and post test counseling Know the qualities of a good counselor

Module 8: Community Mobilisation and Engagement
By the end of this session, participants should be able to: Define community mobilization Mention the different ways of community mobilization Explain why we need to do community mobilization Mention key stakeholders to be engaged in the community mobilization process Explain the different roles of peer mobilizers in community mobilization
